The New Point Comfort peninsula reflects the process of interaction between the land and sea. Few other locations offer a better understanding of these dynamics and the rich diversity of wildlife they create.

The area became a new State Natural Area Preserve in 1998.

The lush green salt marsh turns golden brown during the winter. In the center, the New Point Comfort Lighthouse can be seen standing just offshore the southern tip of the peninsula.
