Flounder
Flounders have bodies well adapted to living on the bottom. They prefer
sandy shoals where they partially bury themselves in the sand and remain
undetected by smaller fish they feed on. Flounders usually arrive in
the Chesapeake in late April and remain into October. They are generally
caught by bottom fishing from piers, the shoreline, and boat. Bottom
drift fishing with live minnows along sandy shoals outside the mouths
of rivers is a popular technique.
